XK San Diego recognizes the teams that battled the toughest competition in the country to clinch the championship of the Surf College Cup. Not only did the following teams take home jackets and medals, but with college scouts looking on, it is quiet possible players went home with scholarships in the bag.
GU-16 Gold
The SCU Blazers shut out Placer United 93 Gold, 4-0, in the finals to claim the championship. The Blazers advanced to the finals after taking out the SD Surf GU-16 Blue,1-0, in the semis (to read more about Surf's match against the AZ Sting, click here).
Goals from Shasta Fisher, Kristin Bos, Kristina Hulse and Nicole Penick boosted the Blazers during the finals. Placer United clinched its spot in the semis after a 2-1 win over LaRoca Premier.
GU-16 Super
Crystal Shaffie slammed the So Cal Blues with a goal to give the Slammers a 1-0 win in the finals. The Slammers advanced to the championship round after a 2-1 victory in overtime against the Real So Cal, with Tessa Andujar scoring both goals (to read more about that match, click here). The Blues secured a spot in the finals after a 2-0 win over the Eagles GU-16 Premier.
GU-17 Gold
Kaitlyn Fitzpatrick contributed two goals for the San Ramon Shock in a 3-1 win over the SD Surf GU-17 North in the finals. The Shock advanced to the finals with a 2-1 win against the LHSC Eclipse White.
Stephanie Rapley added to Fitzpatrick’s two goals, while Shannon Heinzler spun one into the net for Surf. The Surf made its way to the finals with a 1-0 win over SCA 92G in the semis. Surf earned its spot in the semis with a pair of victories, which included a 2-1 finish over the Pleasanton Rage (to read more about this match, click here).
GU-17 Super
Natalie Lagunas scored the winning goal in overtime to give Real So Cal White a 1-0 finish over the Avalanche 92 Premier. Real So Cal maneuvered its way to the final round after a 1-0 win over the Irvine Strikers. The Avalanche secured its spot in the finals after a 1-0 win in OT over the Legends FC.
GU-19 Gold
The Eagles Premier soared through the Surf Cup, securing the division title with a 1-0 victory over the OJSC Strikers. The Eagles took flight into the finals after a 1-0 finish against the California Northstars.
Raquel Gervas had two strikes against her in the finals and was ejected from the game, leaving the Strikers to play with ten players. The Strikers advanced to the finals with a 5-4 win in PKs over MSC 91 United.
GU-19 Super
Melissa Fernandez and Erin Ortega each bagged a goal to give Real So Cal White a 2-1 finish against the SD Surf GU-18 White. Although Surf’s Stephanie Winkenweder found the net first, it wasn’t enough for Surf to go home with the title (for more on this match, click here).
Real So Cal secured its spot in the finals with a 1-0 win over the So Cal Blues-Draluck. Surf advanced to the finals with 1-0 win in overtime against the Players SC 91 Blue.
