Alycia
stopped two PKs and scored one of her own to help Hotspurs USA GU16 Red win a championship game shootout against the San Marcos Matrix in the Kick for a Cure 6v6 tournament on Sunday at Westview HS. Both teams remained scoreless through regulation and overtime. The game was a rematch from pool play, where the Hotspurs had earned a 2-1 victory.

Hotspurs coach Paolo Landini split the team in two for this exciting 6v6 tournament. Both teams performed well, even though some players played together for the first time in a competitive environment. But it was the Red team, which went undefeated during pool play, that made its mark by marching to the finals.

The final was well played with both defenses stepping up to the challenge and battling with true determination. The Hotspurs had Alycia and Shannon sharing goalkeeper duties. Jade, Mel and Mireya held down the back while Taylor C., Taylor D., Koutney and Brook were called to create offense.

In bracket play, the Hotspurs scorers were Alycia (2), Shannon (2), Kourtney and Brook.
