Chivas USA goalie Lance Parker.

Midfielder Sacha Kljestan bagged his first two goals of the season to lift the Chivas USA (10-7-3, 33 pts) to a 2-0 win over Toronto FC at home on Saturday, August 22.

The win moves the team into second place in the Western Conference, two points behind the LA Galaxy, but the Red-and-White have three games in hand over their in-stadium rivals.

The Red-and-White’s first goal came in the 31st minute when midfielder Jesse Marsch tracked down a ball that looked to be heading out of bounds. His cross back into the middle found Maykel Galindo, who headed the ball to Kljestan for a close-range finish to give Chivas the 1-0 lead.

Kljestan struck again in the second period after debutant Brazilian striker Maicon Santos played a perfectly weighted through ball to the midfielder. Kljestan took a touch into the box and hit a low shot past Toronto goalkeeper Stefan Frei for the 11th career goal.

Goalkeeper Lance Parker earned the first shutout of his professional career, playing in just his second MLS match. Toronto took 15 shots but none were on goal, though Parker made several stops on crosses and through balls to preserve the clean sheet.

Chivas USA heads to Salt Lake City this week for a road match against Real Salt Lake on Wednesday before returning to The Home Depot Center for the third and final Honda Super Clásico of 2009 against the LA Galaxy next Saturday, Aug. 29.
