Paul Arriola, forward for the Chula Vista Rangers’ BU15 Premier team and member of the BU15 National Team, will be traveling to Bradenton, Fla., in December to begin the IMG Academy U17 Residency Program, a two-year training camp where the top 40 U16 players live and train for the 2011 U17 World Cup.
Glenn Malone, the director of Carlsbad Lightning who has coached Arriola, is not surprised Arriola was selected to the National Team.
“He’s a fantastic player,” said Malone. “He scores goals; he creates goals; and he makes a difference in the game. I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes all the way.”
Other than his parents, no one is more supportive of the young Arriola than his Rangers coach, Eddie FonBon, who states that Arriola, “is the most special player in Cal South.”
A freshman at Mater Dei HS, Arriola’s future plans include becoming a professional soccer player in Europe, perhaps playing for his favorite team, Liverpool. Nearly 200 players who have attended IMG have gone on to play for the MLS or pro teams in Europe. |
